‘Cross riders and gravel grinders rejoice! Our CX1 Rear Hub was designed with you in mind. Essentially, it is our well designed G2 Hub with some tweaks to allow the compatibility to run a road style 10/11 speed cassette. This means you can keep riding drop bars and integrated levers and get all of the benefits of our exquisite hubs! You still get all of the great features such as a revolutionary drive system, high capacity oil chamber, angled flanges, brilliant finishing, tensionable axle, and high quality bearings.
Product Highlights
Patent pending drive mechanism. All Project321 rear hubs are now equipped with our new magnetically actuated, 6 pawl, ratchet drive system. Thoughtfully angled flanges. This is a big one folks. We are the only manufacturer on the market to create a little to no-touch environment that allows the spokes to touch the hub only at the bend and nowhere else. This creates a more stable and true wheel and eliminates any unnecessary stress on the spokes. We have achieved this by matching the angle of the flanges to the average bracing angle of the spokes and remove any interference. On many of our competitors’ hubs the flanges are vertical or near vertical causing the outside spokes to make heavy contact with the flange creating a stress riser and reducing the strength and stiffness of the wheel. Formed rotor bolt threads. Rotor bolt holes are formed which creates a much stronger thread than the more common method of cut tapping.
Easy to maintain. There are no special tools required to perform any maintenance, just a basic set of bicycle tools will do.
Machined logo. Hubs also feature a unique CNC machined logo versus a lasered or stickered logo.
Industry leading warranty. 10 years on hub shell and axle, 3 years on pawls, drive ring, and driver body.
Rigid Quality Control. This is something we take VERY seriously. You will not receive a hub with a scratch or ding. We believe it is your job to try and tear this baby up, not ours. We also maintain tight controls on anodizing to provide consistent colors and use an extra long seal to preserve color. Unfortunately, fading is part of the nature of the anodizing process, but the extra long seal helps maintain the original brilliance as long as possible.

Can I switch axles on the CX1 hub? Yes. We offer both 135 QR and 142×12 TA options which can be ordered here.

Can I convert this hub to a standard mountain hub? No. This hub has different spacing so it can not be a geared rear hub.

I have the Torch freehub, am I able to upgrade to the new Magnetic Drive System? YES! Fill out an RMA form and ship your hub to us. When we have completed the change out we will charge your credit card $240 and ship the hub back to you.

If two pawl engagement is strong enough why do you offer a three pawl engagement option? We were surprised ourselves to see zero failures of the two pawl engagement configuration during testing but we know there are still riders out there that feel better about three pawl engagement. Tandem teams, E-bike riders, and people over 275 lbs might be the type of riders that feel more comfortable with more pawls engaging. With 3 pawls engaging you still get very fast 2.5° (144 P.O.E) engagement speed and you still have the option of quiet or loud pawls.

Why do you offer such a long warranty on your hub shells and axles? Simple: we have been quietly making and selling hub around the world since 2006 and have yet to see a broken hub shell or axle. So we decided to offer a guarantee that matches that record. We think the reason we have such a good record is careful material placement using computerized FEA (finite element analysis), thorough real world testing and our extreme flange angles that eliminate or drastically reduce spoke contact on the flange where it doesn’t belong. Can I change my hub from a loud to a quiet system or vise versa? Absolutely! We offer both of the pawl types individually so you can switch back and forth as much as you’d like. They can be purchased here.

How loud are the loud pawl? How quiet are the quiet pawls? The loud pawls have a sound that is comparable to the I9 syetem used previously and the quiet pawls are barely audible when riding. Check out our sound test!

Can I change out my driver body from an HG driver body to an XDR or vise versa? Yes. The change out is relatively simple and replacement parts can be purchased here.

Can I use grease inside of the driver instead of oil? Never use grease in our driver!* We recommend using only Dumonde Tech Freehub Oil. Grease inside of the driver can lead to issues such as stuck pawls and increased drag. *Use of grease in our driver will void warranty.

How do I know if my bearings need to be replaced? There are a few factors to consider when it comes to evaluating the condition of your bearings. The amount of ride time you have on them and the conditions in which they were ridden both affect the expected life of the bearing and can vary significantly. If the bearings begin to feel excessively rough or “notchy” or the inner race begins to show a high degree of play then it may be time to swap them out.
